Arto Noras, Artistic Director and President of the Jury

Beginning his studies with Yrjö Selin at the Sibelius Academy, Arto Noras continued with Paul Tortelier in Paris and got launched on a distinguished career on winning the Moscow Tchaikovsky Competition in 1966. Since then he has appeared with most of the world’s leading orchestras and won himself a reputation as an active chamber musician.

Noras’s extensive discography includes many works dedicated to him. His long career as a professor at the Sibelius Academy, his numerous masterclasses and his service on the juries of international competitions have left their mark on cello playing both in Finland and abroad. Arto Noras is the founder and Artistic Director of both the Naantali Music Festival and the Paulo Cello Competition.
